LANCE CORPORAL BOAGEY

Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal Citation, taken from the Annual Report for 1915. Compiled by Peter Helmore. Boagey, R. Lce. Corporal, Durham DLI Case 42087. On the 28th September, 1915, Pte J.W.Jameson, who cannot swim, walked into the Lys River, France, in the darkness. Boagey jumped in and saved him. September 1914 The third call (K3) for volunteers was made on the 13th and it produced the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Batallions. 12th and 13th were allocated to the 68th Brigade of the 23rd Division and were to be trained at Frensham near Farnham. 14 and 15 DLI were allocated to the 64th Brigade of the 21st Division and were to be trained at Halton Park near Tring. MARCH 1915 12th and 13th both moved to Ashford in Kent. They received their khaki clothing and managed to do some musketry training. BODY ON ROCKS

NORTERN DAILY MAIL, HARTLEPOOL  NOVEMEMBER 16, 1901. INQUEST AT HARTLEPOOL BODY FOUND ON ROCKS. Mr.Coronor Bell last night held an inquest on the body of a young man, which was found on the rocks near the Old Pier, Hartlepool on the previous day.  Andrew Boagey, fisherman and Hunter Boagey, pilot spoke to finding the body whilst looking about amongst wreckage that had washed on the rocks near the Old Pier. In the course of their evidence they stated that during the storm a number of people had crowded on the Pier and deceased might have fallen off. George Richardson, lodging-house keeper, Cleveland St. stated that he believed the body to be that of a man who lodged at his house for three days a fortnight ago. When he left he said he was going to Sunderland. He gave the name of Wilson.
